Gender Equality Plan

The European Interuniversity Association on Society, Science and Technology (ESST Association) is a collaboration between (currently) 14 member universities. Its Board consists of representatives of those universities, its Bureau consists of members of the Board.

All member universities have active Gender Equality Plans – see the list and links below.

The ESST Association’s Gender Equality Plan consists of two interrelated elements:

  1. The joint GEPs of its member universities

Since the ESST Association consists exclusively of member universities, it is bound to follow their joint policies.

  1. The pursuit of gender equality in its own activities

The ESST Association is dedicated to teaching and research on the interrelations between Science, Technology and Society (STS). Gender relations constitute an important part of this task. This is reflected in the room reserved to the themes of “gender and science” and “gender and technology” in its MA curriculum (see ESST Syllabus 2026). And it is reflected in the expertise of the academic staff associated with ESST teaching and research (see ESST Syllabus, expertise list).

In general, the field of STS is unthinkable without the subject of gender (inter-sectionally combined with issues of race, sexual orientation, age, and ability), both as an object of study and as a topic of intervention and improvement. As a consequence, gender equality is core business for the ESST Association.

This GEP has been adopted by the ESST Association Board per 11 August 2026.
